Hello,
Swelling of the hands and feet can be due to many causes. One if them is arthritis(Arthritis means "joint
inflammation")In your case it can be rheumatoid arthritis if there was morning stiffness and joint pain
along with the swelling for>6 wks.It can be confirmed by rheumatoid factor, anti-CCP antibodies, C-reactive
protein (CRP), and erythrocyte sed rate (ESR).
Another possibility can be SLE.It is an autoimmune disease affecting women more than men. Almost all people
with SLE have joint pain and swelling and most develop arthritis. Diagnosis can be confirmed by ANA(anti
nuclear antibody testing), blood tests and urine analysis.
Swelling of the hands and feet can be a result of edema also. Edema is fluid accumulation in the body. It can
be caused by reduced kidney function, chronic kidney disease, congestive heart disease, varicose veins,
phlebitis, protein or thiamine deficiency, sodium retention, or cancer.Acromegaly (a hormonal disorder that
results from too much growth hormone (GH) in the body. Diagnosed by measuring levels of GH)also has to be
ruled out.
I advise you to take the appointment of your physician and get yourself thoroughly examined to find out a
confirmatory diagnosis and treatment will then depend on the same.
Take care and God bless.
