ThanksD Dimer Blood test - My concern is a d dimer test result. I was having pain in my left leg, mostly behind my knee. I started worrying about a blood clot since I sit for long hours on my job (I have no other predisposing factors-no family history, no recent surgery or injury) I went to my doctor and the leg was evaluated. The Nurse practitioner said she did not think it was a blood clot, probably just a pulled muscle. Symptoms seemed to improve but the next week they were bothering me again. I did some reading on the internet and saw that there was the d dimer that could be used to rule out a blood clot if it was negative. I decided for peace of mind I would get this done. I went to a place that just does blood tests and got this done. The result was 0.5 (on a scale with 0.0-0.4 being normal). Since the result was high I went back to my doctor two days later. The doctor said that since I had no symptoms in my legs she did not think it was a blood clot. She agreed to check the d dimer again for my peace of mind. The result came back at 3.48 (on a scale with 0.0-0.48 being normal). She still said she did not think there was any blood clot and she said there can be false positives. She also orderred an ultrasound of the legs, which was normal. My question is what could cause the high number? Is this just slightly elevated or very elevated? What would have caused such the increase over two days? Is this signifigant in the absence of other signs?Pubic Area Swelling - I am 53 year old male with high blood sugar. I have noticed recent swelling in my pubic area. There are no lumps but feels like fatty tissue with mild discomfort when pressing. What could this be? Should I be worried. No other health issues but I do smoke 1 - 1-1/2 packs cigs per day.Cotinine - I have a question regarding cotinine, and how long it stays in your system. Basically, I've been under an undue amount of stress these past few months and did a really stupid thing, I picked up smoking again (the little skinny menthol ones) after 20 years. I have been smoking about 8-10 cigarettes a day for roughly the past eight weeks. I have stopped, as of today, but concerened with how long I will test positive for cotinine, as I am being tested within the next few weeks (work related). I have read so many different answers to this question online, and would like to get it straight from a physician. I also read that it remains in your urine longer than blood, and that menthol has a tendency to linger longer. Is this true? Thank you in advance for your answer!
