	disconfort swelling in back of head were neck meets. left side more pronounced hurts when pressed. not much pain more an disconfort

	Answer by Dr Paul S, MD (doctor) on Sun 20, Jul 2008 08:15pm: Hi. These are most commonly caused by muscle strain which is generally due to stress. Strained muscles can sometimes result to swelling which may give you these symptoms. Other common causes would include spine problems such as that of compressed nerves due to protruding discs or bone spurs. Conditions such as fibromyalgia is also possible, which is usually accompanied by some form of depression or inadequate sleep. Regards.
