I have had lower body aches ever since having the flu over the winter. Crampy, achey even upon waking. Butt and down the legs, right one worse. I have taken supplements of mg, Ca, potassium and Vit D, no relief. I did have a cbc, was normal. What could it be? I am not an athlete, not am I sedentary or overweight. Thyroid was wnl too. I do have cervical spondylois.

Answer by Dr Paul S, MD (doctor) on Sun 25, May 2008 09:18pm:

Hi there. There can be several causes for this occurrence however with your situation it may be difficult to pinpoint. Viral infections may cause an immunologic phenomenon that may affect the nerves and this may explain some of your symptoms. The confirmation of which will entail a battery of tests that you should discuss with your doctor. Vascular problems such as arterial occlusive diseases can also cause pain when using the lower extremities and would usually manifest after some form of activity using the legs. The inadequate blood reaching the muscles may trigger the pain. Other vitamin deficiency such as Vitamin B complex can result in neuropathic pain. Finally, spinal compression problems can present with pain, alongside with symptoms of weakness and possible balance problems. I'm not sure if your cervical spondylosis can explain this entirely. I suggest that you discuss all of these possibilities with your doctor so that you can be properly worked up for such conditions. I hope you can be rid of this pain soon. Regards and God bless.
