I am due to have a rtectal examination soon. how will the dr examine my rectum and will he want to do a vaginal examination. As he is male can I ask for anurse to be present

	Answer by Dr.Rikesh Polavarapu (doctor) on Fri 18, Dec 2009 09:14am: Hello Ms.Claire, It is not routine to do vaginal examination along with rectal examination except in some conditions like rectovaginal fistulas. You should relax your body and slowly breathe as advised by your doctor this will make him to examine you comfortably and so it won’t hurt you. Being male doctor, he should accompany a nurse while examining a female patient. You have very right in asking for nurse to accompany him if he didn’t do so. Thank you
