I have developed persistant Diarrhea, abdominal pain and sickness after takingthe antibiotic Clarithromycin

	I have developed persistant Diarrhea, abdominal pain and sickness after taking the antibiotic Clarithromycin for a chest infection. Should I stop taking them immedietely? Thanks

	Answer by Dr.Rikesh Polavarapu (doctor) on Sun 13, Dec 2009 05:23am: Hello Mr.Jimmy, If u had developed severe diarrhea due to drug clarithromicin it is better to stop at least temporarily. You may need to take some probiotics to overcome this problem. You have to make sure that you had not developed pseudomembranous colitis which is a common side effect of clarithromycin. If it is so you need to get a medical advice and start medicines accordingly. Thank you.
