I have been detected with a Thyroid Nodule in the right lobe.

Asked by suvanisairamsindhe (Female; 31 ) on Mon 07, Dec 2009 03:20am :

I have been detected with a Thyroid Nodule in the right lobe.Scan report says" well defined heterogeneous nodule( 4.0X1.9cm) in the right lobe.Increased vascularity noted within the nodule. No calcification/cystic changes.Left lobe normal in size, shape & texture.Small hypoechoic nodule measuring 0.7cm noted in the posterior aspect of left lobe.Isthmus is normal" Lab reports of TFTs done are as follows. T3 1.15 ng/mL (normal range is 0.8-2.0) T4 9.25 ug/dL (normal range is 5.1-14.1) TSH 4.10 uIU/mL (normal range is 0.27-4.2) On physical examination general surgeon said i may have to undergo surgery to get the nodule removed. He then referred me to Endocrinologist. My Anti TPO test shows 0.6 U/mL (lessthan 9.0) FNAC says" Paucicellular aspirate, ultrasound guided FNA from nodule in right lobe of thyroid. Inadequate for opinion." My doctor said,"we will wait for 6 months to see if the nodule is increasing in size. After 6months,we will repeat FNAC & see. Right now no medication /surgery is required." Anyone pl tell me wt does all these test results mean? Am I seeing the right Doctor?? I don't have any thyroid related symptoms. Except for severe neck pain. I have a congenital vertebral block in C6-7. The doctor opined that the thyroid nodule might have trigerred the neck pain. Can anyone guide me? Thanks in advance.

Hi there. Welcome to the forum! Any nodule not removed needs to be watched closely with an examination and follow-up with the physician every 6-12 months. This follow-up may involve a physical examination, ultrasound examination, or both. Cancerous nodules or those that are highly suspicious for cancer should be removed, while the rest should be followed closely and reassessed frequently. Please keep us posted for any further queries. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
