	I have been on synthroid for over two years. Last week I ran out and felt great when I was not taking it. I have been taking it for a couple days again and feel awful with mood swings and anxiety. I have also had significant weight gain on synthroid. What would happen if I stopped Taking it?

	Answer by Dr. Harsh Abbott (doctor) on Fri 04, Dec 2009 10:15am: Hi, levothyroxine is given to hypothyroid patients to replace what is naturally missing in the body. It is not a drug as such, but supplements what the body cannot produce enough of. Stopping taking levothyroxine would lead to you becoming hypothyroid again. This means you'll feel sluggish and tired, feel constantly cold, have dry skin and put on weight. I suggest you not to stop taking it unless you consult your physician. Thanks.
