Can I give cyproheptadine HCl to my 8-year old kid to increase his appetite? Ifso what is the least amount/dosage to give him? I've tried all branded vitaminsbut they have no effect on his appetite.Thank you for your prompt response.

Appetite stimulation by Cyproheptadine HCl is debatable, however, several clinical trials have shown that it helps, especially in adults and children suffering from cancer and cystic fibrosis. It has several serious side-effects when used in the long term and should only be used in the short-term, in consultation with your paediatrician. A minimum dosage of 2mg/day 3-4 times/day may be tried, again after consulting your doctor. Meanwhile, try increasing his physical activity, getting him involved in a sport he enjoys might do the trick. I hope this helps and good luck.
