Hi
Breathlessness and chest pains may actually need further evaluation. There are several factors one need to
consider for breathlessness and chest pains. One needs to ask if this is due to a cardiac or lung problem.
These two are primary in differentials as any conditions affecting these organs may require immediate
intervention. Another differential would be nerve related. One may also ask if this is something caused by
anxiety or panic attacks. Neurologic and psychological factors may present with breathlessness and chest pain.
Hormonal imbalance rarely presents with breathlessness and chest pains unless the cardiac and pulmonary
aspects are also involved as in the case of thyroid problems.
Circumstances surrounding the onset of the symptoms also need to be determined. You are still young and may be
living an active lifestyle. Engaging in strenuous activities and exercises as well as smoking, staying up
late, drinking too much coffee and alcohol may also lead to these.
I suggest that you have this assessed early on. A baseline EKG and chest Xray may be able to help. A 2D Echo
of the heart as well as thyroid hormone levels may also be obtained. We need to ascertain that the heart and
lungs are clear at this point before we proceed.
