I have pea sized hard lumps in my scalp on the back of my head... i had the one for years, i just discovered my second one today. its not attched to my skull, they are in my skin, and they are painless and colorless and they stay the same size from what i can tell... what could it be? how do i get rid of them? How can i prevent them from occuring? are they cyst or ingrown hairs? could it be cancer?

Answer by Dr Noopur S, MD (doctor) on Sat 30, Aug 2008 05:21am:

Hi, How are you? There is very little possibility that these are cancer, however it can only be ruled out by physical examination. The likelihood of these being sebaceous cyst, ingrown hair follicle, dermatitis and lipoma is more. Please get them checked out. Take care!
