I'm having a diverticulitis attack ... last one I had was 2 years ago. This one came on very suddenly yesterday afternoon (approx 9 hours ago). I've taken a 500 mg Levaquin tablet prescribed by my doctor, Dr David Stump, at last attack. He said if/when I have another attack take one of these immediately whether or not I need to go to the doctor. I'm running a low-grade fever (100.6) and the pain is not a constant pain, but when it comes it brings me to tears. I drank 10 oz Magnesium Citate a few hours ago, but no help with bowel movement. I had a CSCAN (or whatever) two years ago which showed a definite diverticulitis pocket. My question is: What worsening physical change should I experience before going to the emergency room --- it's 1:25 am here in Texas -- I live approx 40 minutes from an emergency room in San Antonio. The last grueling pain was approx 5 minutes ago. But here comes another one! Appreciate your response!!

Hello, Diverticulitis is inflammation of diverticulosis, which involves the formation of pouches (diverticula) on the outside of the large intestine. You can experience severe pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting. You can take pain killers like ibuprofen with dicyclomine when you experience pain in abdomen. You can take a course of broad spectrum antibiotic like ofloxacin with tinidazole. Take care.
