My chronic neck probs have gone from bad to worse when I recently developed postional vertigo (could the two be related?). In addition to feeling dizzy when I change position in bed, I often feel dizzy when I look up or down. I've also outlined my neck probs (below) which may or may not be related to vertigo: 1) Severe pressure in neck on right side radiating up side of head. 2) Presure, tightness, fullness and fatigue in those areas. Takes all my energy to hold my head up. 3) When I lay down, I get a pulling, pulsating, throbbing sensation which prevents my muscles from relaxing so I can fall asleep. 4) Muscles on side of head are tender at two pressure points. I had a neck X-ray recently and it showed "muscle strain." Xanax helps (it's the only thing that's helped me relax my muscles so I can sleep!) but nothing else seems to put a dent in my problem. Any thoughts?

Hi, Welcome to the forum. I am really glad to help you out. The symptoms which you have described can possibly occur due to several conditions. One of the possibilities is cervical spondylosis. In this there’s a degeneration of the vertebrae of the neck and there’s a pressure on the nerves of the neck and this can produce giddiness. Diseases of the ear, where the organ of maintaining the balance lies can also cause similar giddiness. This can be due to an acute viral infection which can involve the labyrinth of the ear or one of the intrinsic diseases like Meniere’s disease. AN ENT Examination and an MRI of the cervical spine should help in confirming the diagnosis. Please do consult a neurologist for the same. I sincerely hope this information helps. Take care.
