I have itchy swollen lips all the time and have to keep them moist they feel best when in the cold as this soothes them

	I have blistered itchy swollen lips and an itchy runny nose what is causing this please I also have an itchy scalp I apply vaseline every ten minutes or so daily there are little raised yellow circles all over my lips which I presume are blisters

	Answer by VanessaMD (doctor) on Sat 09, Aug 2008 07:54am: Hi Firstly we have to rule out an allergic reaction here as you have noted itching scalp, lips and runny nose. If you have any history of allergies, allergic rhinitis or asthma then this may be able to explain your symptoms. This may require oral antihistamines. Another differential may be a fungal condition. This may help explain the scalp itchiness and the yellowish circles on the lips. Skin scrapings may be obtained and a microscopic evaluation of such skin scrapings may be done to help ascertain if a fungal infection is present. In the presence of a fungal infection, applying miconazole gel on the lips or washing the hair with selenium sulfide at least twice a week may help. Washing with nonmedicated shampoo frequently and vigorously may just be beneficial if this is a case of seborrheic dermatitis which may also have a fungal component.
