I have been told that I might be having seizures. It happened 20yrs ago when I was 18. Now it has recently started again. I have periods that I do not remember. My family states that I am awake but altered and I have no memory for hours sometimes days. Ihave not had any episodes since being off of antidepressants.

Answer by Dr. Namita Shrivastava (doctor) on Mon 10, Aug 2009 09:25am:

Hi, It does look like a case of absence seizures (petit mal epilepsy)which is manifested as staring spells which is quite unlike the commoner tonic-clonic seizures. Also certain migraine variants and memory disorders can present like this. Your neurologist must have done certain neurological studies and EEG to confirm the diagnosis. For more information on absence seizures visit www.emedicine.medscape.com. Always feel free to contact in case you have any more queries.Hope this helps.Take care.
