Hi,
Certain foods and medication have been known to cause alteration in stool color. However, blue stool is not
related to any specific condition so far.
Medications such as pepto-bismol can result in green-colored stool.
The feeling of discomfort could be due to abdominal distention which could be a result of some substance that
could have caused irritation or flatulence. If constipation is also present, it can give rise to nausea and
even vomiting.
Do post a few more details regarding medication that you are currently on or any alterations in diet preceding
this change. Stool that is black in color may appear greenish or blue but is actually due to the presence of
blood that the color change appears so. This would mean bleeding in the upper part of the GI tract and will
need further investigation to identify the cause of the bleeding.
Increase your fluid intake to over 2000 ml per day, add more fiber and vitamin C in diet, consume more fruits
and fresh vegetables, and add some probiotics to your diet.
Do keep us posted.
regards,
