Yes. A broken tooth and other dental problems like ill fitting dentures may actually cause cuts and blisters
on the tongue. If this is the case, then cold sores due to herpetic infection and bacterial infection may be a
differential.
Visit your dentist to have this tooth fixed. Frequent irritation may lead to excoriations on the tongue and
this increases the chance for infection. Herpetic infections may present as cold sores while bacterial
infections may cause some redness and even discharge.
Gargle with an oral antibacterial wash at least twice daily. Observe good oral hygiene. If the broken tooth
appears to aggravate the condition then have this fixed early on.
