How to get off antidepressants

Asked by Unregistered (Female; 50; HX Breast CA, Panic Attacks; Relevant drugs:Armiidex, Lovastatin, Cymbalta ) on Thu 25, Dec 2008 07:04pm :

I have been on Paxil 20 mg for 4 years. I started having S/SX dizzyness and that floating feeling or shock sensation in my head so my doctor increased it to 30mg then to 40mg. I did OK for a couple of months and the sensations returned. She took me off Paxil and started me on Cymbalta 30mg. It will be one week tomorrow, the first few days I felt better, had a few of the S/SX but not as many. Today I woke up feeling awful. I can't hardly function d/t my dizzyness, poor concentration, agitation, diarrhea and that awful feeling in my head. I could never take Lexapro, Effexor or Buspar d/t the same S/SX. We are supposed to leave for vacation tomorrow and I don't know what I should do. How do you get off of these crazy meds. I think I would rather have some depression and anxiety than to experience this. Can you help me?

Hi, Considering your medical history and the medications you have been on it would not be a good idea to try any over the counter medications or non prescription medications. It would not be advisable to change the medication or dosage without consultation with your doctor. I agree that the symptoms you are having could be due to the side effect of medications; but they could be part of the disease process too. It would be best to consult your doctor before you stop, change the dose or start any new medications. Let us know what your doctor advises. Regards.
