Have Hep. C/Cirriosis, looking for alternative plan besides pegintron injections

	Asked by maureen4058 (Female; 43; USA; depresion,anxiety,car accident in 1995,had to have complete facial reconstuction, crushed 2 vertabraes, had 1 vertabra replaced in neck. High blood pressure,GERD, 1 birth natural, tubal, tonsils out, had hep A years ago; Relevant drugs:Previcid,zoloft,klonipin,ultram,claritin,spironolactone ) on Wed 17, Sep 2008 10:56am :
	I started pegintron/rebitrol injection last week. Started having passing out spells and dehydration,also fever blisters all around my mouth & nose.Was addmitted to hospital,had alot of test ran.Dr. said no more peg. he was going to check with some universities for alternative plan.Is there one? My tests and blood work all came back good,considering having HepC/cirriosis. Is there anything else out there?

	Answer by Dr Noopur S, MD (doctor) on Wed 22, Oct 2008 06:07am: Hi, Thanks for writing in. Interferons are the latest treatment for hepatitis C. Pegintron is a long acting interferon; you can discuss the usefulness of sing three shots of long acting interferon instead of one shot of long acting one. Interferons and antiviral drugs are the mainstay of treatment of Hepatitis. Take care!
