Asked by tinkerbell277 (Female; 30; USA; Female problems w/pain,excessive bleeding, enlarged cyst/noduals(comes and goes). possible endometriosis.; Relevant drugs:recently taking hormones for post-menapausal syndrome. ) on Thu 11, Sep 2008 01:16pm :

My daughter recently had a pap smear done by her family physician, it came back abnormal w/pre cancerous cell w/scomis & epiphilial (can't spell right word), also indicated she had A-typical w/undetermined HPV high risk negative, She doesn't have HPV, but,was told needed to do something as soon as possible. She is single, no insurance, low income....she can not afford to go to the doctor, my husband and I can not help her as we are going through a bankruptcy, She lives in Georgia and I live in Florida, she has called numerous organizations, they tell her she has to wait six months and get retested. Don't understand. Isn't there something we can do, does she have to wait six months...There is a history of female problems which resulted in Breast cancer, and total hystorectomy done between the ages of 30 & 35, including me at age 34. Endometriosis is previlate. Thank you...my email address is lambert75@embarqmail.com.

Answer by Dr Noopur S, MD (doctor) on Tue 23, Dec 2008 09:56pm:

Hi, Thanks for your post. From your post it appears that the pap smear results indicate cervical dysplasia. The cells are not cancerous but may be precancerous. Since the results are abnormal it is important that she undergoes a repeat pap smear and a colposcopic examination of cervix for biopsy. I would suggest you to ask her to see an OBGYN as early as possible because only after colposcopic examination treatment options can be decided upon. Take care!
