Bilateral hip bursistis. Rated 8 on 1-10 pain scale. making walking, standing for more than a minute painful. Pain is acute, sharp & stabbing.Stretching helps a tad as does ice & sitting or lying down. Where are 2 bursae for hip located exactly & treatment when steroid injections do not work? Bilateral trochanteric bursa injected with steroids in office. Obtained almost 4 days of reduction in pain to about a 6-7 & returing to an 8 by the end of the 4th day.Currently started on TENS unit for 1 hour 3-5 times daily, physical therapy with aquatic therapy & massage ordered pending results from x-rays and MRI of lower back. Pain Management docs PA does not believe there are 2 bursa for each hip. It feels to me like the PA thinks the pain in upper buttocks & extreme lower back to be insignificant. It feels differently than SI joint pain.I have done some internet research on this & some sites recommend bursectomy. Can you give me some further info on that as a last resort? Also how many times do your hips have to "pop" both externally & internally before a diagnosis of Snapping Hip Syndrome is made? Mine pop about 8-10 times daily for the past 1-1 1/2 years. The majority of popping occurs with exagerated squats with inner thigh stretches. This pop does not bring relief it seems to send a very sharp stab of pain thru the outer hip running down the outer thigh toward the knee for about 3-4 inches & along the inner groin area. As for history I have undergone 2 right sided SI joint ablations post steroid injections. 2 right hip steroid injections & 1 left hip steroid injection. Short course of Celebrex cut short do to heart problems.Afraid to take any more NSAIDS. Topical NSAIDS have no effect---Lidocaine patch & Voltaren gel.I am at my wits end for what to do next. I have no quality of life at this time. My hope currently lies in the TENS unit & upcoming PT.I would welcome any suggestions that you may have. Thank you! Kristy
