Answer by Dr Noopur S, MD (doctor) on Mon 18, Aug 2008 07:36am:

Hi, How are you? From your symptoms it appears that you are suffering from Achilles tendonitis. Achilles tendon is the largest and most vulnerable tendon in the human body. Tendons are strong but they are not very flexible and are very prone to rupture. Achilles tendonitis usually occurs from chronic injury due to overuse. Ignoring the warning signs and pushing through pain only makes things worse. Treatment includes rest, gentle calf stretching exercises, avoiding activities like climbing up the stairs. Toe raises and balancing on the toes is also a very good exercise. Hope this helps!
