About atenolol medicine reduction

Asked by Unregistered (Male; 38; India, Republic of; Hypertension and Anxiety neurosis; Relevant drugs:Amtas-AT, and Telma -20mg. ) on Tue 09, Sep 2008 04:27am :

Doctor, Iam very pleased with the immediate response for my question, but i want to know one main thing that is , earlier when i was using tenoclor 50mg (contains Atenolol), i got changed my medicine to Losar tablet wherein after 2 days my heartrate increased to 96 per minute , so i asked our physician about this then he told me that stopping atenolol suddenly will increase the heartrate. So please help me how to stop Amtas-At(contains Atenolol) medicine and what is the alternate.

Hi, How are you? Atenolol should always be withdrawn very gradually. The patient needs to be monitored very closely during the withdrawal and even after the drug is completely withdrawn. Are you stopping the medication on your own or is it your doctor’s decision? Please do not withdraw the medication on your own it has to always occur under medical supervision. Take care!
