how long for a sprained pinky to heal? I slammed my hand in a pocket door as it was closing quickly

I slammed my hand in a pocket door as it was closing quickly about a week ago. How long for a sprained pinky to heal? That side of my hand swelled and bruised also. I was/am able to make a fist but it is tight due to swelling in the pinky. I have iced and put arnica on it frequently in the past week.

Hi. The first thing that would need to be done in such an injury would be to rule out a fracture or an injury to the tendon. You may consult an orthopedician for the same or visit the ER. Sprains typically take a week or two to heal depending on the injury sustained. It is also advised to keep the finger immobilized for the time to promote healing, by plastering it to the adjacent finger. Hope this helps. Take care.
