Answer by Dr Veena, MD (doctor) on Fri 05, Dec 2008 01:00pm:

Hi, Thanks for writing in. Missed period can be due to two reasons, one is due to hormonal imbalances and the other is pregnancy. I would suggest to take a pregnancy test. If it is positive, and you are having vaginal bleeding then thorough evaluation by a gynaecologist is required. In such a case, possibilities could be rupture of an ectopic pregnancy, placenta previa and placental rupture. Headaches, nausea, vomiting can occur in pregnancy. Pain in the pelvic area and vaginal bleeding can occur in STD’s, and Pelvic inflammatory disease. I would suggest to get a STD panel done with ultrasound. Coming to shoulder joint pain, it is usually due to over use and strain. Rest and anti-inflammatory drugs can help in getting relief. Consult a gynaecologist for further assistance. All the best.
