what does it mean when you heart is only working 25%

He was in v=fib. doctors shocked his heart and put him on cumadin. 3 weeks later he's in v=fib again. doctors shocked his heart agaon and now his heart is only working 25% they sent him home w/ medications (i dont know what) what does it mean

HelloMr.Ann541254,thanks for posting in AMD.Ejection fraction is the percentage of total blood in ventricle pumped with each beat.Ejection fraction is assumed in percentage which is roughly equal to % of working heart as you told.Normal EF is 55 to 70% and anything below 30% carries high risk.He needs regular medications without fail and implantation of defibrillator as adviced by your cardiologist.Take care.
