after several bouts of diverticulitis, my doctor told me I needed to have a bowel resection. I know i should be asking my Dr this question but i was too embarrassed. I would appreciate any feedback that can be offered.

Answer by Dr Rowena S, MD  on Tue 02, Feb 2010 07:00am:

Hi, How are you? Immediately after the surgery, any activity, including anal sex, is not allowed for proper healing. However, there are many factors that you should also consider such as the extent of resection, underlying medical conditions and type of surgery. These are best answered by your surgeon which is familiar with your case. Talk to your doctor and do not be embarrassed about it.Take care.
