Hi, I have a question about spotting during my cycle.

	Hi, I have a question about spotting during my cycle. I had a twin misscarraige & D&C in may 2009 and since then my cycle has changed. For the last 6 cycles my cycles were 28 days, 28 dyas, 35 days, 45 days, 63 days & 34 days. In the last 4 cycles (including the one i'm in now) I have had brown spotting for 3-4 days about 1 week before ovulation. at first I thought it was ovulation so we were trying to concieve but then later found out by counting my cycle, taking temps & using ovulation detection kits that ovulation happens about a week after the spotting. The spotting is dark brown mostly and it has blobs or jelly looking stuff.. sometimes its stringy but always brown gunge. Usually on the first day of the spotting its slightly pink when I wipe but for the most its dark brown. It hardly makes it to my underwear and is usually only on the toilet paper. I dont have any pain with this spotting and I'm not exercising regularly. My normal period lasts for about 5 days and are a little bit heavy on the first 2-3 days with cramps and then it eases off and is light for the rest. What could this spotting be from? SHould I get my hormones checked? Could this stop me from getting pregnant again? Its really worrying me. Could it be that the d&c didnt remove everything properly? PLease help.

Well the two most common cause of inter menstrual spotting are ruled out in your case—pregnancy and birth control pills. Other causes are hypothyroidism, cervical dysplasia, cervical polyps, cervicitis (infection/inflammation of cervix), vaginitis (infection/inflammation of vagina), cervical and uterine cancer, uterine fibroids, hormonal imbalance as in polycystic disease of the ovary, use of blood thinners, genital ulcers, STDs and stress. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your gynecologist as tthese causes can affect chances of becoming pregnant. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Take care!
