Hi, Facial growth pattern may differ in every individual but if the growth is strictly on one side then I would advice you to consult an endocrinologist to rule out any hemifacial hypertrophy or atrophy in some mild forms may lead to such condition. Hope this helps.

i'm 24. i should of been more specific. I can grow hair on my both sides of my face. But not nearly as much on the left in comparison to the right. My dad has a full beard but my mother told me that it didn't grow until his late 30's. I can't even grow sideburns down to my ear lobes. Would an endocrinologist still be able to help? I still get very bad cystic acne. I don't understand why i have acne but very sparse and irregular facial hair besides that it's probably just genetics. thank you for answering my question.

Hi, I appreciate your concern. As you said in your question that you have facial hair growth mainly on one side of face which makes us feel that there could be hemifacial hypertrophy of mild form in which one side of face matures a bit earlier than other therefore hair growth in one sided in early adulthood and once complete maturity is attained the hair growth becomes uniform (both sides become mature by now) as it happened in your dad's case too. Yes, it is a genetic condition. A consultation to endocrinologist may just help you understand your condition more and confirm/rule out our diagnosis and checkup your hormonal levels as facial hair are secondary sexual character which depend upon hormonal set-up. Presence of severe acne can be attributed to multiple factors like hormonal disturbances, stress , excessive oily skin leading to plugging of hair follicle with superimposed bacterial infection so you need a skin specialist to get them treated. Hope this helps.
