hello, i am a 21 year old male. I have a rash on my upper back and bottom (between where the cheeks meet). I also had a rash on my chest for about 1 and a half weeks but that has now gone. After looking into it online it looks very much like a Pityriasis rosea rash. I would like to know more information on this. How i may have contracted this, the liekly hood that it may be a hhv 6 or 7 virus and the seriousness of this. also what are the chances that this could be passed onto to other people i am in close contact with. Thankyou for all your help. David

Answer by Dr. A. Srivastava (doctor) on Sun 22, Nov 2009 09:03am:

Hi David, Rash may occur due to several reasons not just related to pityriasis rosea until it is confirmed by a doctor. But if this is pityriasis rosea, then cause is usually unknown. But the good thing is rashes caused by this are not serious and has no specific treatment. It can take a long time but will go away by itself as well. Hope this helps. http://www.aad.org/public/publications/pamphlets/common_pityriasis.html
