Enlarged Ovary with Black Spot

Asked by dmc829 (Female; 37; Fibromyalgia, Partial Hysterectomy (uter), ; Relevant drugs:Cymbalta, Atenolol, Prilosec, Tramadol and Diclofenac as needed, Ambien CR as needed, Enablex, ) on Tue 17, Nov 2009 06:54pm

I had surgery this past Friday. I had a bladder taping done which was followed by a scope. WHile performing the scope the doctor saw my left ovary was quite enlarged and resting on my bladder. When she flipped the ovary over there was a black spot on the ovary. She had to remove half of the ovary and sent it for biopsy. She did not tell my husband after the surgery what it might be just that it did not belong there and needed to be taken out and sent for biopsy. She did say when the results come back she would call right away. I haven't heard anything yet but would like to have some idea of why the ovary was so enlarged and what the black spot could have been. I am sure the fact that it was resting on the bladder explains the problems with frequent urination and the lower back pain I was having. I had gone to my regular doctor several times and finally decided to go to my gynegologist on my own. I am glad I did but would just like some answers as to what it could be. The taping went well and my bladder seems to be working good for just 4 days. I am tired and sore from the two procedures but I am a little worried with no answers. Any information would be appreciated

Hello, The most common causes of a black spot on your ovary could be a normal ovarian follicle, an old scar from a ruptured follicle, an ovarian cyst (multiple cysts could suggest PCOD) or endometriosis (spots look like blue or black powder burns). Ovarian tumours can also cause enlargement. A clear diagnosis would be possible only by correlating your symptoms (if any) and the biopsy findings. I hope this helps. Glad your surgery went well and Good Luck.
