Does Bactrim (to treat an UTI) interfere with oral birth control pills? If so, how long after I finish the Bactrim will I be protected again? If it doesn't, can I keep having intercourse normally once the UTI has passed? Thank you

	Answer by Dr. Namita Shrivastava (doctor) on Tue 01, Sep 2009 10:23am: Hi, Bactrim is a combination of antibiotics- trimethoprim and sulphamethoxazole. It is not known to interact with oral contraceptive pills. You can continue OCP’S as usual and have a normal sex life after successful treatment of urine infection with bactrim. Hope this helps.
