Hi,
You have a "large cholesterol granuloma" of the petrous temporal bone. How was this diagnosis
arrived at? Was it based on imaging (CT scan/MRI) and clinical examination, or was a tissue analysis done
(Biopsy).
A cholesterol granuloma is the commonest lesion observed in the petrous apex. If conservative treatment with
drugs fails, then surgical intervention in needed for establishment of appropriate drainage and ventilation.
There are no large studies that have shown that patients with cholesterol granulomas may be at higher risk for
cancer.
