having a period after not having one for 1 year with it being light with blood clots going on 4 days .should i contact medical attention.

	i have not had a period for 1 year and now i am having a very light period with clots for 4 days. is this normal or should i seek medical attention.

	Answer by VanessaMD (doctor) on Mon 25, Aug 2008 06:06pm: Hi I would suggest that you have this assessed by your gynecologist. A pap smear and a complete pelvic examination may be necessary. This may not be something serious in the absence of abdominal pain, bloatedness or enlargement of the abdomen. Continue to observe the bleed. Make sure there are no previous injuries in the area. Also, certain medications like blood thinners (warfarin, heparin and aspirin) may cause bleeding.
