hypoglycemia or seizures

Asked by silverado1669 (Female; 38; USA; hypoglycemia; Relevant drugs:none ) on Tue 16, Sep 2008 10:22pm

I was diagnosed several yrs ago with hypoglycemia. I can feel my sugars dropping, sometimes i can be in a daze and not be able to move. My husband has had to feed me at those times to help my sugars come up. other times I pass out. I feel sluggish and not right when this starts to happen. I know i have to eat something but am not thinking right. I have passed out before and then woke up on my own, ate something and felt a little better. But after all of these episodes, I feel better after eating but my body is wiped out, I have no energy at all and all I want to do is sleep. Could this be seizures instead or is this hypoglycemia?

Hi there. If you are aware of what is happening with your surroundings during these episodes, then it is rather unlikely that you are having seizures. However, severe hypoglycemia can indeed cause seizures characterized as jerking body movement, upward rolling of eyeballs, and being unaware of what is happening around you. One more important question to ask is what is causing this hypoglycemia? A possibility is that you may have an insulin secreting neoplasm or tumor somewhere in your pancreas that unnecessarily secreting insulin, thereby causing unpredictable drops in blood sugar levels. I suggest you talk to your doctors regarding this possibility and have work up for such condition. YOu may undergo imaging studies such as MRI or ultrasound to look for these conditions. Regards.
