genital herpes first timer and im scared cuz i dont know if i do or not

	does genital herpes spread to theighs and pelvic area and start itchy then turns into big open soars then crust over but itches really bad? could it be something else?

	Answer by Dr Rowena S, MD (doctor) on Fri 15, Aug 2008 06:54pm: Hi, Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the herpes simplex viruses. Most individuals have no or only minimal signs or symptoms from HSV-1 or HSV-2 infection. When signs do occur, they typically appear as one or more blisters on or around the genitals or rectum that break and leaves tender ulcers that may take two to four weeks to heal the first time they occur. Another outbreak can appear weeks or months after the first and tends to decrease over a period of years. Diagnosis is usually by visual inspection and by taking a sample from the sore and testing it in a laboratory. HSV infections can be diagnosed between outbreaks by the use of a blood test that may detect antibodies to HSV-1 or HSV-2 infection. It would be best to see your doctor for further evaluation of the lesions and rule out other causes such as fungal infection or dermatitis. Take care and regards.
