family history of breast cancer - Younger sister, mother and myself have invasive breast cancer. Is this considered strong family history of cancer?

i have invasive breast cancer .55mm and having a lumpectomy. My younger sis 53 (lobular) had cancer and my mother (ductal) had cancer at 63. Is that considered a strong family history of cancer? My mom's sis also had cancer of breast at age 65.

Hi. How are you doing? Your mother, sister, and maternal aunt had history of breast cancer. That can already be considered a strong family history of breast cancer. You may have a mutation in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes. These genes can then be inherited. Aside from affecting multiple members of the family, other characteristics of inherited breast cancer include young age at diagnosis (less than 40 years), bilateral breast cancer, and association with other cancers like male breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and sarcomas. It is very important for other members of the family to be screened regularly not only for breast cancer but for ovarian cancer (for female family members) as well. Good luck.
