Years ago, I suffered trauma(elbow) to my top lip. Was left with burst blood vessel. It never bothered me until a few years ago when I started feeling blood rushing to it. I looked and there was a cluster instead of one. I went to Dr. and had them cut out/removed.Very painful-but worth it. Until a year later, when another one formed. Small, but also on the underside of top lip- big enough to see it. Then, it did the same thing and then I had 2 or 3. Dr. removed these aslo. He said that if it kept happening I may be left disfigured. I already have a slight wrinkle from where the others were cut out. A couple months ago I noticed another one. But this one is farther up on the inside of my lip- not just the underside and is somewhat larger. I just noticed a small one forming on the underside of my lip where the others have been. I need to go to Dr. but I'm scared. What is this and what is causing it. What can I do to prevent this from happening again. Also, is there any other method of removing these besides the cutting/burning method that's been used the past 2 times?

Answer by Dr Noopur S, MD (doctor) on Mon 28, Jul 2008 12:35am:

Hi, How are you? These lumps that you keep getting are most likely due to burst blood vessels in the lip. It is very difficult to tell without a proper clinical examination. You can try putting ice cubes and toothpaste on the lump and it may dry out on its own. If there is no improvement please consult an expert dermatologist. Take care!
