Answer by Dr Bobby V, MD (doctor) on Fri 25, Apr 2008 05:07pm:

Hi, Itchiness of the breasts is not typically associated with breast cancer. It may represent fungal infection, dry skin, or other benign dermatological conditions. Very rarely, Pagets disease of the nipple may present with eczema-like features. If your diagnostic mammogram and breast ultrasound only showed benign lumps, then you just need to be on regular follow-up. You have not mentioned your age. Do you have a history of fibro-cystic disease of the breasts? Does the breast pain and lumpiness increase or decrease during certain periods of your menstrual cycle? If you have breast lumps and a family history of breast cancer, please consult your doctor for a clinical examination, even though your current symptoms do not fit into the classic presentation pattern of a case of breast cancer. All the best!
