Hi there.
From what you have described, I can tell that his situation needs urgent attention and physical consult with a
doctor.
Bloodshot eyes, usually from a hemorrhage underneath a thin protective layer called the conjunctiva results
from increased pressure of the blood inside the veins. We usually see this after a forceful coughing spell
where the pressure elevation causes the small blood vessels to burst.
Affectation of both eyes from someone who is not coughing can mean that something can be blocking the blood
returning from the eye. This could be a nodule or tumor at the back of the eyes or even deeper in the middle
of the skull. Additional worrying features is the inability to sleep and the weight loss.
I suggest you have this checked by your doctor, ophthalmologist, or neurologist as soon as you are able.
Regards and hoping for the best.
