a pulled upper hamstring muscle wha can I do to heal it ? And how long does it to take to heal?

I pulled my hamstring muscle while doing the splits I did not now I pulled it until recently.I thought I was just sore so over the past few weeks I have been streching and doing dance and just trying to ignore the pain. It's been three weeks now and it still hurts when will it get better and what do I need to do to get it better?

Hello dancing girl After a hamstring injury it is important to rest the injured muscle, sometimes for up to two or three weeks. Rest, apply Ice and Compression. Elevate the leg if possible. An anti-inflammatory can be helpful to reduce pain and inflammation. A stretching program can be started as soon as the pain and swelling subsides. A strengthening program should be used to rebuild the strength of the injured muscle in order to prevent re-injury. Make sure you increase this gradually. A thigh wrap can be applied to provide support as the muscle heals.If the pain still persists you should consult an orthopedic physician.
