Answer by Dr Bobby V, MD (doctor) on Wed 12, Mar 2008 08:22am:

Hi, PPE refers to "Palmer-Planter Erythrodysesthesia", more commonly known as the "Hand-Foot Syndrome". It is an adverse effect of chemotherapy drugs. 5-Fluorouracil (5FU), capecitabine, doxorubicin, docetaxel, idarubicin, and cytarabine are the most frequently involved agents. This syndrome consists of of redness, tenderness, tingling, numbness, dry rash, and desquamation over the palms and soles. You can get a detailed description of this syndrome at the following site. http://patient.cancerconsultants.com/SideEffects.aspx?DocumentId=23169
