Swollen lymph nodes and Hep C

Asked by jasontilli (Female0 ) on Tue 16, Sep 2008 07:32pm

Hi, I have two swollen neck lymph nodes that I have had for about two years. I have gone to multiple doctors and they said not to worry about them. I also went to an ENT and had a CT scan which showed that only the two nodes under my tonsils were swollen and not any others. Had encounter with someone who might have hep C. We kissed, he fingered me and I gave him oral sex. From what I have read it seems that I could not have contracted Hep C. It just worries me that I have these swollen nodes. Would Hep C cause lymph nodes all over to swell or localized swelling. Do you think I am at risk for Hep C and should I persure these swollen lymph nodes?

Hi there. Hepatitis C is more commonly transmitted through blood transfusions but can also be transmitted sexually. The extent of sexual contact is less clear, but your risk of acquiring this infection through the activities you have described is indeed low. However, it is best to have yourself tested for Hepatitis C markers just to make sure. It is also unlikely that Hep C would present with a localized lymph node enlargement. It is however possible, that you have acquired some form of infection from the oral sex. If you are really bothered by this node then I would suggest you discuss with your doctors regarding the possibility of a biopsy to settle things once and for all. Regards.
