Sore Throat on one side, Ear ache on same side, Slight Cough, No fever. No visible signs in throat, not strep

I have a sore throat on only my left side. It only hurts about 75% of the time and I have not figured out what causes or stops it from hurting. I also have minor earaches in my left sometimes as well as a dry cough every now and then. I do not see any signs of strep or any other noticeable infections in my throat. It has been going on for about 4 days now. I tried gargling salt water and that did ease the pain a little but it returned soon after. No fever either. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, a sore throat (also known as pharyngitis or tonsillitis-may affect single side) is symptom of a disease affecting the pharynx or the area around the tonsils and it may be due to virus or bacteria. The characteristics of the symptom are throat pain and trouble swallowing. Also, pain may spread to the ears. Usually there are no complications. The symptoms of a sore throat can be relieved by using over-the-counter medicines, such as sprays containing antiseptics and anaesthetics to numb the sore area, or antiseptic gargles. If the sore throat is due to bacterial infection it should be treated with oral antibiotics with the consultation of your doctor. Hope this helps.

sore throat earache neck pain on same side may be due to inflammation of tonsils, larynx and pharynx of the throat. Most of the time this is caused due to viral & bacterial infection.
