I am 63 this year and was menopausal at age 42. At this time my gynaecologist prescribed progesterone and oestrogen tablets which I took for about 3 years, after which I was prescribed straight oestrogen - no more menstruation, and which I took until age 57. I have had mamograms every two year since 50 the last one being in end of Sept 2006. A lump has been detected in my left breast - had a fine needle biopsy but path doctors could not tell whether it was carcinoma or lymphoma. Had a core biopsy yesterday to get a definite result and having a bone scan today to prove no cancer in rest of body today. The main reason presented to me for having HRT prescribed seemed to be for the prevention of heart attack and so that I would not appear too wizened in my old age. By the way there was no history of breast or any other cancer in females on both sides of my family. Am I victim of HRT? GP's did not bat an eyelid about providing HRT prescriptions for me over the years until nearly 6 years ago one suggested that if I had no reason to take it try going off it and I did, only to find a lump inside my left breast nearly six years later. The only after affects were itchy skin for which I used vitamin e cream
