What is a noraml opeing presswure for a 34yr old female after a lumbar puncture? I have Pseudotumor cerebri and hypothyroidism and I have had numerous bouts of periodic catantonia and I have pressure headaches every day. I also a moderate loss of perephrial vision loss.

Hi there. Normal opening pressures during lumbar puncture lies between 5-25 cmH20. This pressure should be measured right after the CSF space is accessed by the spinal needle. For your condition, there can be higher tolerance in terms of normal values and it all depends if you have pertinent symptoms pertaining to the pseudotumor cerebri. Standard treatment for this condition would include the placing of VP shunts to allow for pressure equilibration. Regards.
