Answer by Dr Heinrik M, MD (doctor) on Fri 14, Mar 2008 06:39am:

Hi, Unfortunately, there are limited options for metastatic pancreatic cancer. Current available treatment would include chemotherapy with Gemcitabine or a combination of Gemcitabine and Erlotinib. I'm unfamiliar with the cancer clinic in Zion you mentioned. There is a network of cancer centers called the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN). There is a member institution in Chicago, the Robert H Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. Going to an NCCN institution would increase your chances of getting her enrolled in a clinical trial – if you are interested in trying something different from what is available. Be aware though, that enrollment does not guarantee getting the innovative treatment- it only offers the chance of getting it. Trials usually offer standard therapy against new drugs or new combinations.
