TO GET MORE PHYSICALLY ACTIVE, AS WELL AS TO LOOSE WEIGHT I JOINED THE YMCA - WHERE I DO WALKING ON THE TREAD MILL (MONDAY THRU FRIDAY), AND WEIGHT MACHINES 2 OR 3 TIMES A WEEK. MY QUESTION , WHAT TYPE OF EXERCISE DO I NEED TO RELIEVE THE PRESSURE ON THE CENTER OF MY CHEST - MAKING BREATHING A LITTLE MORE STRAINED? Answer by Dr Paul S, MD (doctor) on Sat 16, Aug 2008 06:42am:

Hi. It is better to have your exercises supervised and monitored by certified physical therapists or cardiac rehabilitation specialist. This is because overdoing things can result in more harm to your heart rather than helping it. The symptom of pressure in the chest after an exercise is serious and should not be taken lightly. This can be a symptom of angina, or the symptom produced where the heart muscles are unable to receive adequate blood supply and oxygen. Cardiac patients generally need aerobic forms of exercise, but then again, these exercises should be well supervised. Take it easy for now and arrange for a cardiac rehabilitation program. Regards.
