Oral Cancer - Feeling something stuck in back of throat near right tonsil area

Hello. I am a 29 year od woman. Yes, I smoke (or smoked- I recently quit). For the past few months now, I've had this feeling like something is 'stuck' or present in the back of my throat- more specifically my right tonsil. I went to the dentist last week and asked him to check it out. He says he cannot see anything unusual. This feeling has been there for months now, and sometimes it's more prominent than other times. I do not feel it when I eat or drink- it's basically when my mouth is 'idle'. I have been under considerable amount of stress lately, so perhaps this couls be some sort of manifestation, however, it seems odd that it would only be on one side of my mouth (right tonsil area). The dentist referred me to a E.N.T., but I have been unsuccessful of getting an appointment yet. I am SO unbelievably scared. PLEASE GOD, don't let this be cancer

Hi, The chances that this is cancer are very less. The most important thing here is - you need to stop smoking immediately. This could be due to bacterial infection - tonsillitis, pharyngitis etc. Oral thrush or candida infection, sinusitis causing a post nasal drip, gastro-esophageal reflux causing acid to irritate the back of the throat are some other causes. Stress can also cause similar symptoms. It would help to try warm saline gargles, steam inhalation , avoidance of chilled liquids, alcohol and smoking when you have this. An ENT consultation would help in finding out the exact cause. Regards.
