Hi Jennifer,
I am sorry to hear about your fathers plight. You have been told that he has a sort of skin cancer that has
spread to the regional lymph nodes.
Without proper medical attention, it will be difficult to salvage the situation, especially since you say that
the local lesion has spread and caused the appearance of a "hole".
Surgical debridement, while useful in controlling infection, may not help cure the underlying disease. For
that, a biopsy needs to be taken to make an appropriate diagnosis, followed by a staging procedure including a
CT scan of the head and neck. Only then can a sound decision be taken regarding the management.
Time is important, and please try to seek the help of friends, relatives, local government and social
resources, and also the local parish. I wish you courage and all the very best during what must surely be a
stressful and sad period for you.
